Name the room and explain whether the radiator is completely cold, partly warm or leaking at a valve. Mayfair arranges an engineer to check the radiator, its valves and how it heats with the rest of the system.

What if the repair needs more work?

If a first-visit fix isn’t possible, the agreed visit charge still covers the call-out and assessment. We explain the fault and quote any parts, further investigation or larger repair for your approval.

We’ll give you the full visit price when you book. There is no additional call-out fee on top of that price.

Workmanship, warranties and specialist work

Any workmanship guarantee is set out in your written quotation: the work covered, duration, exclusions and how to report a problem. Product warranties follow the manufacturer’s terms. A repair does not automatically guarantee the whole existing system. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

Gas work must be carried out by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Electrical and unvented hot-water work need the relevant competence and certification where required. Mayfair matches the work to the appropriate specialist.

How urgently do you need help?

The situation matters more than the name of the fault. Use the safety guidance above if anyone may be at risk.

Urgent repair

Call to check availability.

No heating or hot water, an active system leak, or repeated faults stopping the system? Explain what has stopped working and whether anyone in the home is particularly affected.

We aim to arrive within 1 hour for urgent London repairs, subject to availability, postcode, specialist requirements and travel conditions. The estimated arrival time and charge must be confirmed by phone. An enquiry does not book attendance.

Routine work

Plan the repair or service.

Annual servicing, a planned controls upgrade or one cool radiator while the rest of the home heats normally and there is no leak: send the details for a suitable assessment.

Understand the repair

What the engineer will do.

Air, valve operation, flow balance and restrictions can affect how a radiator heats. The engineer needs the pattern across the home before recommending bleeding, balancing, a valve repair or further investigation. A cold radiator does not automatically justify a power flush.

  • Assessment of cold spots, poor heating or a reported radiator leak
  • Agreed valve or connection repairs
  • Balancing or replacement proposals where the assessment supports them
  • Heating and visible-leak checks within the agreed scope

A useful first enquiry

What to tell Mayfair.

  • List affected rooms and which other radiators work.
  • Say whether the radiator has ever heated properly or the fault is new.
  • Describe the location of any leak and whether water is still escaping.
  • Mention recent decorating, radiator replacement or system changes.

Before any work

Avoid handling a hot radiator or forcing a stuck valve. If a leak is spreading, phone about urgent repair availability. If the whole home has lost heating, use the no-heating route and explain the wider problem.

What affects the quote?

Valve parts, draining and refilling, the number of radiators and access affect the quote. Balancing the system, replacing a radiator or cleaning it internally should be specifically agreed instead of assumed to be part of a small repair.

Example problem & repair approach

A leaking radiator valve

The problem: Water appears around the valve or its pipe connection.

How we can help: Identify the leaking component, carry out the agreed valve or connection repair and check the radiator for leaks and heat.

Questions about cold radiator & radiator leak repairs.

Why is my radiator cold at the top or bottom?

The pattern helps the assessment: trapped air, restricted flow or deposits can affect different parts of a radiator. Describe what is warm and what is cold; the pattern alone is not enough to prescribe a repair.

Will bleeding fix every cold radiator?

No. Valves, balance, circulation and the heat source may also need checking. Tell the engineer if bleeding has already been tried and whether it changed the problem.

Can you repair a leaking radiator valve?

It may be repairable or need a compatible replacement. Include a clear description or photo, the type of radiator and whether the leak is active so the visit and isolation can be planned.
