A tap can drip from the spout, leak around its base or leave water beneath the basin. We check the source and whether the tap needs a compatible replacement part or a new fitting.

What if the repair needs more work?

If a first-visit fix isn’t possible, the agreed visit charge still covers the call-out and assessment. We explain the fault and quote any parts, further investigation or larger repair for your approval.

We’ll give you the full visit price when you book. There is no additional call-out fee on top of that price.

Workmanship, warranties and specialist work

Any workmanship guarantee is set out in your written quotation: the work covered, duration, exclusions and how to report a problem. Product warranties follow the manufacturer’s terms. A repair does not automatically guarantee the whole existing system. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

Gas work must be carried out by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Electrical and unvented hot-water work need the relevant competence and certification where required. Mayfair matches the work to the appropriate specialist.

Start with what you can see

Your repair question, answered

Can a dripping tap be repaired without replacing it?

It may be repairable with a suitable washer, seal or cartridge. The fitting’s condition and availability of compatible parts determine whether repair or replacement makes sense. A photo of the tap and the leak helps us plan the visit.

Exact scope

What Mayfair will check.

The cause may be inside the tap, at a connector or around the installation. The plumber checks the fault and whether a compatible washer, seal or cartridge is available before proposing a repair or replacement.

  • Kitchen, basin and bath tap fault assessment
  • Compatible washer, seal or cartridge replacement where suitable
  • Agreed water-flow and visible-leak checks

Prepare your enquiry

What to tell the plumber.

  • Share the tap brand or a clear picture of the whole fitting.
  • Say whether it drips when closed or leaks only during use.
  • Describe access beneath the sink or behind the bath panel.

What affects the cost?

The tap design, availability of parts, isolation and access affect the quote. An unusual cartridge may require sourcing and a return visit.

Describe the symptom before choosing a repair.

  • Note whether water drips from the spout with the tap closed, appears at the handle or collects beneath the basin.
  • Include whether it is a mixer, separate hot/cold taps or a concealed fitting. A photograph is useful when arranging the assessment.

Questions about this repair.

Does a dripping tap always need replacing?

No. A serviceable fitting may be repairable with a compatible part. Condition, parts availability and the cost of repair compared with replacement should be considered before you decide.

Can you repair a kitchen mixer tap cartridge?

Ask for a cartridge assessment and share the tap brand or model if known. The cartridge must match the fitting. Mayfair will discuss sourcing and whether a return visit is needed before a part is ordered.

Is water under the sink definitely from the tap?

No. Supply connections, flexible hoses and waste fittings can also leak. Explain whether water appears when the tap runs, when the sink empties or even when neither is in use.

Questions about booking a plumber.

How much does a plumber cost in London?

From £85 including VAT for call-out, assessment and labour to fix a small, safely accessible fault on the first visit where possible. We’ll give you the full visit price when you book. Parts and further work need a separate quote and your approval. If the repair needs more work, the visit charge still covers call-out and assessment.

Can I book a plumber near me by postcode?

Send your full postcode and the plumbing problem. We use them to check the appropriate trade and current availability. Postal districts cross borough boundaries, so an area match alone does not confirm attendance.

Can you help landlords and tenants?

Yes. Include the reported fault, who can arrange access and who approves the work. Where a tenant, landlord or managing agent needs to authorise attendance or expenditure, agree that before booking.

Do you offer same-day or emergency plumbing?

Call to discuss current availability. This website does not promise same-day attendance, a fixed response time or 24-hour cover. Do not wait for an online reply if there is an immediate risk.

Can you find matching taps and replacement parts?

Share the brand, model and finish if known. Mayfair can discuss sourcing compatible parts or a suitable replacement, with cost and any return visit agreed before ordering.

Is repairing water-damaged decoration included?

Only if it is included in the written scope. Tell us if you also want plastering, cabinetry repairs or decorating so the complete job can be planned and quoted.
