What if the repair needs more work?

If a first-visit fix isn’t possible, the agreed visit charge still covers the call-out and assessment. We explain the fault and quote any parts, further investigation or larger repair for your approval.

We’ll give you the full visit price when you book. There is no additional call-out fee on top of that price.

Workmanship, warranties and specialist work

Any workmanship guarantee is set out in your written quotation: the work covered, duration, exclusions and how to report a problem. Product warranties follow the manufacturer’s terms. A repair does not automatically guarantee the whole existing system. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.

Gas work must be carried out by an appropriately qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. Electrical and unvented hot-water work need the relevant competence and certification where required. Mayfair matches the work to the appropriate specialist.

Start with what you can see

Your repair question, answered

My toilet keeps running. Do I need a plumber?

Water continuing to flow into the bowl, a cistern that refills repeatedly or a flush button that fails are reasons to request a toilet repair. Tell us whether the cistern is concealed. If the bowl fills up instead of draining, choose toilet unblocking.

Exact scope

What Mayfair will check.

The assessment distinguishes filling, flushing and connection problems. Concealed systems can need a particular access method and manufacturer-specific parts, so a similar-looking replacement may not be suitable.

  • Fill and flush mechanism fault assessment
  • Compatible cistern components and controls where available
  • Agreed refill, flush and visible-leak checks

Prepare your enquiry

What to tell the plumber.

  • Share the toilet or flush-plate brand if known.
  • Say whether water runs into the bowl or leaks onto the floor.
  • Mention a boxed-in cistern or any difficulty reaching it.

What affects the cost?

Access to the cistern and the correct parts affect the price. Any opening-up or making good must be included explicitly if required.

Describe the symptom before choosing a repair.

  • Describe continuous water into the bowl, repeated refilling, a weak flush or a button that no longer operates.
  • Mention if the cistern is behind furniture or tiles, and whether the toilet is the property’s only one.

Questions about this repair.

Can a concealed cistern be repaired without removing tiles?

Some systems provide service access through the flush plate or another panel. The fitting and access must be assessed before that can be confirmed; avoid assuming tile removal will or will not be necessary.

Can you repair a toilet that will not flush?

Include whether the button or lever moves normally and whether the cistern refills. The filling and flushing mechanisms need different checks, and concealed systems may need manufacturer-specific components.

Can a running toilet increase my metered water use?

Water continually entering the bowl can waste water even without a puddle on the floor. Arrange a repair assessment and mention a change in metered usage if you have noticed one.

Questions about booking a plumber.

How much does a plumber cost in London?

From £85 including VAT for call-out, assessment and labour to fix a small, safely accessible fault on the first visit where possible. We’ll give you the full visit price when you book. Parts and further work need a separate quote and your approval. If the repair needs more work, the visit charge still covers call-out and assessment.

Can I book a plumber near me by postcode?

Send your full postcode and the plumbing problem. We use them to check the appropriate trade and current availability. Postal districts cross borough boundaries, so an area match alone does not confirm attendance.

Can you help landlords and tenants?

Yes. Include the reported fault, who can arrange access and who approves the work. Where a tenant, landlord or managing agent needs to authorise attendance or expenditure, agree that before booking.

Do you offer same-day or emergency plumbing?

Call to discuss current availability. This website does not promise same-day attendance, a fixed response time or 24-hour cover. Do not wait for an online reply if there is an immediate risk.

Can you find matching taps and replacement parts?

Share the brand, model and finish if known. Mayfair can discuss sourcing compatible parts or a suitable replacement, with cost and any return visit agreed before ordering.

Is repairing water-damaged decoration included?

Only if it is included in the written scope. Tell us if you also want plastering, cabinetry repairs or decorating so the complete job can be planned and quoted.
